Alt.com does have a large member base, however the site itself and its functionality is increasingly lacking. Chatting and contacting people works well, private messages with email addresses are no longer blocked as they used to be, so one can move fast to other domains to continue getting to know one another. Also there are blogs and instant messaging available for interaction.
On the other hand, there are multiple basic features that do not work as one would assume, for example searching profiles with a distance from yourself or a selected location does not include other countries within the given distance, instead matches are possible only in the selected country (or of one's country of location). Anywhere else than the largest of countries this makes the search much less usable. Also there are other glitches, e.g. wrong locations (in the form of 'New York, France') shown in profiles in search results, which hinders the overall usability.
One major downside is the poor customer service, especially when there are issues with certain functionality on the site. One is just about always given a standard general reply, no matter how detailed the problem description is, Alt.com's basic approach seems to be that the...
